“Shamatha” a poem

I sit cross-legged, amused
Eyes full of light confused
What looked so barren and bare
Has depth beyond compare
A thing common, like my view
Can appear fresh and be new
Everytime I set eyes
Nascent and fresh, Surprise!

Hushing voices in my mind
Can be the hardest part
Giving to grace to unwind
How else to find your heart

I think breath unrestricted
Earthly thoughts proscripted
Ignoring stiffness and pain
I settle and remain
As relaxed as I can be
Glimpses of eternity
Float across my awareness
For bliss one needs finesse

Moments linger through the day
Priceless fragments I hoard
As I try and make my way
Like when my spirit soared
